Cleeve Tennis Club held its first Major event of the season on Saturday (April 5) - a junior tournament inviting neighbouring tennis clubs.

The proverbial baton was taken up by Congresbury, Backwell and Nailsea Tennis Clubs all participating in all three categories, Under 8s, Under12s, and over 12s. The event was organised by long term coach John Tate with his wife Emma along with club charman Phil Stackhouse. A spokesman for the club said: "The weather was sunny with many parents and grandparents coming along to support the children, so many members gave up their time, providing teas and coffees, cakes and snacks, we also had a BBQ going, all this made it a wonderful event with such a wonderful atmosphere.

" Each child won a medal and certificate with the winners and runners up receiving a Trophy each and the under 8s was won by Nailsea and Backwell LTC with the runner up from Congresbury LTC. The under 12s section was a Nailsea and Backwell Final while the over 12s was all Cleeve Lawn Tennis Club. Harry Roberts overcame Jacob Lucas in the end.

The Cleeve LTC spokesman congratulated and thanked all the competitors. The event was sponsored again by Yeo Valley Lions for the 4th year running and they have already agreed to sponsor the event again in 2026..
