Garden weeds can be a real eyesore and not only that, they wage a silent war against your prized blooms by hoarding nutrients and casting shade. And it's not just their looks that cause gardeners grief. Some cheeky weeds have the nerve to excrete chemicals that stifle the growth of surrounding greenery.

With that in mind, savvy gardeners on Facebook have been sharing a nifty homemade concoction to wrestle back control of their plots. Shirley Boyle couldn't help but brag on Mrs Hinch Gardening Tips Facebook page, saying: "OMG I have just sprayed my weeds on my patio with a vinegar, salt and washing up liquid solution and within an hour they were dying." "Don't ask what the ratio was because I don't measure anything but it obviously works.

Delighted." Her post went viral among fans of cleaning whizz Sophie Hinchliffe, or Mrs Hinch, as many jumped in to say how fantastic the weed-zapping potion is. Jackie Hinge said: "I did this last year, wanting to avoid chemicals and it worked a treat.

Like you, no measuring just put it all in an old spray bottle." Catherine MacInnes chimed in with: "I can totally agree. Tried this and it worked within hours.

Amazing." Margaret Blair chipped in her two cents: "It works. I use it all the time.

" You can get your hands on vinegar, dish soap and salt at any local supermarket or online, for pence rather than pounds, reports the Express . Deals are everywhere, with white vinegar up for grabs at Asda for a mere 99p, Sainsbury's Washing Up Liquid at just 60p and Cook With M&S Table Salt going for a paltry 40p over at Ocado. If you're looking to follow the lead of Mrs Hinch's disciples, some suggest you could even ditch the dish soap and just go rogue with salt and vinegar.

Katrina Johnson remarked: "Well done. I just use salt. Works well every year.

" Michelle Turner chipped in with her approach, saying: "I use cheap table salt and it works." Joining the discussion, Mary McClure Whelan shared her success: "I used undiluted vinegar on the weeds that were popping up through my monoblock and it did the trick..

. They've not returned.".
