Times News Network Ludhiana: A Class IX student of a private school at Dhandra village planned a prank with the help of an “online friend” from Bihar to get his school closed for a day. The student sent an e-mail to the principal, threatening to blow it up on Friday. The principal informed the school management, village residents and the police.

While the school declared Friday a holiday, police initiated a probe to trace the person who had sent the mail. The trail eventually led to the 15-year-old school student. Police found that the boy had teamed up with his friend to get the school closed.

The threat mail received by the school on Thursday afternoon said that a bomb had been planted to blow up the building on October 5. Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) South, Harjinder Singh said that they sent a bomb squad to search the school premises. Although no explosive was found, a team of PCR cops was deployed at the school on Friday.

Police traced the IP address used to send the mail and reached the teen, a Class IX student of the same school. “On being questioned in the presence of his parents, the boy admitted to have sent the mail. The minor boy also shared that he became friends with a Bihar-based youngster and they planned online games.

The student said that the boy from Bihar had suggested the prank. The boy sent the mail to the official email ID of his school for fun,” said the ACP. The official said that as the sender of the mail is a minor, police are not proceeding with any action on the consent of the school authority.
