Class 10 student dies after being administered 'wrong' injection in Odisha

A Class 10 student, Sukhdev Munda, died after allegedly receiving a wrong injection in Karanjia, Odisha. The pharmacist responsible is absconding as police investigate.

A Class 10 student died after allegedly being administered a wrong injection in Karanjia, Mayurbhanj district . The deceased student has been identified as Sukhdev Munda of Dharapada village under Pandapoda police limits in Keonjhar district . According to sources, Munda was suffering from a skin infection.

His father had taken him to a local pharmacy ‘Sarbeswar Medicines’ at Saharpada Market. However, the pharmacist assured them that the injection would lead to a swift recovery. Within a minute of being given the injection, Sukhdev's condition reportedly deteriorated, resulting in his death.



Family members attempted to save him by rushing to Karanjia Medical Centre, but sadly, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. The incident spread outrage in the medical premises as Sukhdev's family sought accountability, demanding the pharmacist who administered the injection face consequences.

However, the pharmacist absconded following the tragic event, and a police investigation is currently underway to find his whereabouts. The community, alongside the grieving family, is in mourning and is calling for swift action and justice in light of this incident. The authorities have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted.

“He was my nephew. He was suffering from some skin disease. Instead of ointment, they administered an injection, leading to his death.

I want justice for him and his family. We demand action against the person who gave him the injection,” sobbed Basanti Munda, relative of the deceased student..
