Claire was born, raised, and educated in Catskill, NY, daughter of the late Nicholas L. and Ethel I. (Baldwin) Ross.
She graduated from Catskill High School and then received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Saint Mary College, Class of 1966. Claire earned the Distinguished Alumni Award for her significant contribution to society. She continued her education at The College of Saint Rose, and received her Master of Arts in 1971 and went on to co-author the book, Greene County New York '76 Bicentennial Overview: Beginnings and Background.
Claire retired as a National Register Program Analyst for the State of New York in the Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. Prior to working for the state of NY, Claire was a teacher in the Catskill Public School District. She had an affinity for history, especially when it came to buildings, structure, and landscapes in the Catskill and Buffalo regions.
She was an avid historian in many regards and was recognized by the State of New York. She was given the Main Street, New York, Recognition Award for her outstanding contributions on behalf of the revitalization and preservation of the unique character of her community's main street. She leaves her brother, Wayne Ross; nephews, Lawrence, Matthew, Steven, and Jeffrey Ross; and niece, Tricia Flynn.
Claire was predeceased by her parents, and her brother, Lawrence M. Ross. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Thomas Cole Historic Site https://thomascole.
