Bengaluru: A civil engineer's reckless driving led to two people being injured and six two-wheelers damaged near Dr Ambedkar College in Nagarabhavi Friday night. The incident occurred around 9.15pm, when Puneeth, a resident of Andrahalli on Magadi Road, lost control of his Honda City car.

According to Jnanabharathi traffic police, he hit two pedestrians and rammed into six parked two-wheelers on the roadside. One of the victims, Raj Dev (31), a granite-laying labourer from Kengeri, suffered a fracture in his left leg and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. The second pedestrian sustained minor injuries and was discharged after receiving first aid.

The police conducted an alcometer test on Puneeth, which confirmed he was not under the influence of alcohol. During preliminary questioning, Puneeth stated that he was on his way home after work when a few pedestrians suddenly began crossing the road. In an attempt to avoid hitting them, he panicked, swerved the vehicle, and mistakenly stepped on the accelerator instead of brake.

"We have registered a suo motu case against Puneeth. Though the owners of the damaged vehicles were willing to settle the matter as he agreed to pay for repairs, we had to proceed with a formal case due to the serious injury sustained by one of the victims," a senior traffic police officer said..
