Civic, police officials told to check stubble burning jointly

Times News Network Ludhiana: Calling for zero tolerance approach towards stubble burning, deputy commissioner Jitendra Jorwal asked civic and police officials to conduct joint patrols to check stubble burning cases. Khanna SSP Ashwini Gotyal also directed police officers to maintain round the clock vigil on fields to prevent stubble burning. During a meeting with SDMs, DSPs, cluster and nodal officers at Bachat Bhawan, the deputy commissioner asked officers to hold meetings with village sarpanches and organise foot marches in villages with the police force.

Jorwal asked cluster/nodal officers to conduct checks in villages with police officials from this week to discourage stubble burning. He said that joint patrols by civic and police officials would deter people from burning stubble. He also said that public announcements against stubble burning should be made from gurdwaras, temples and moving vehicles.



The DC said that he would visit worst affected areas with police chiefs to sensitise farmers about the ill effects of stubble burning. He urged farmers to play a positive role in the drive to check stubble burning and asked them to avail subsidies on crop residue management machinery. He announced that the district administration would facilitate farmers, villages and panchayats reporting burning cases.
