Civic body marks Clean Air Day with plantation drive at Nehru Rose Garden

Ludhiana: Commemorating the International Day of Clean Air For Blue Skies ( Swachh Vayu Diwas ), the municipal corporation (MC) organised a plantation drive under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign at Nehru Rose Garden on Saturday morning. MC commissioner Sandeep Rishi led the plantation drive after which a ‘tree walk’ was organised for students from Residential School for Meritorious Students. During the ‘tree walk’, experts Balwinder Lakhewali and Brij Mohan Bhardwaj apprised the students of the importance and benefits of native trees of the state and encouraged them to take up plantation drives in their surroundings.

MC commissioner said that the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign was launched under the National Clean Air Program (NCAP) by the ministry of environment, forest and climate change. Addressing the students and other participants, he appealed all to do their bit for a pollution-free environment by planting trees in their surroundings. He also asked the students to spread awareness among people regarding segregation of dry and wet waste for proper disposal of solid waste.



Sandeep Rishi said that only collective efforts by the authorities and the residents can bring a positive change in society, and we should all make efforts to reduce pollution levels and ensure a pollution-free environment for the coming generations. MC assistant commissioner Jasdev Singh Sekhon, executive engineer Balwinder Singh, among others were present during the plantation drive.
