Civic body issues challans on 2nd day of cleanliness drive

Ludhiana: The civic body continued with its cleanliness drive launched across the city for the second day on Friday. Challans were issued to several building owners for dumping rubble on roads outside their buildings and some encroachments on roadsides were also removed. The cleanliness drives were conducted in different parts of the city under the supervision of respective zonal commissioners of the civic body.

On Friday, zone A teams continued the drive at Old GT Road and nearby areas, while zone B teams covered the area around Samrala Chowk, Glada Road, near Vardhman mills (leading to Tajpur road from Chandigarh Road) and nearby areas. Similarly, zone C teams conducted the drive in areas around Dholewal Chowk and zone D teams conducted the drive in Ghumar mandi and Rani Jhansi Road, among other areas. The cleanliness drive was launched across the city on the directions of MC commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal on Thursday.



Joint teams of the health branch, B&R branch, horticulture and tehbazaari wing have been formed for these drives. The civic body teams would be covering all major roads and markets of the city under the drive which will continue till the first week of October. MC commissioner Dachalwal said the cleanliness drives are being taken up as per the schedules prepared at zonal level in the past.

Zonal commissioners have been directed to monitor the drives on the ground, he said. Dachalwal said apart from senior officials, he would also be conducting surprise inspections. No laxity would be tolerated, he said.

India Tourism Varanasi conducted an awareness programme at Rani Lakshmibai Birthplace, Assi Ghat, with participation from employees and students. The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign was initiated at Banaras Locomotive Works where officers and employees took a cleanliness pledge.

Widespread cleanliness drives get underway across Kashi Various institutions in Varanasi conducted cleanliness campaigns on Wednesday. India Tourism Varanasi held an awareness programme at Assi Ghat with around 75 participants, including employees and BHU students. The Banaras Locomotive Works launched the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, where officers and employees pledged their commitment to cleanliness.
