The Consultative Implementation and Monitoring Council (CIMC) successfully hosted two major development forums this month in Port Moresby and Lae, Morobe Province. The first, a three-day deferred National Development Forum 2024, was held from April 2nd–4th, 2025 at APEC Haus in Port Moresby under the theme: “Strengthening the Rule of Law: A Roadmap for Future Generations.” The event brought together over 200 participants, including government officials, private sector representatives, business houses, security firms, SME owners, development partners, civil society groups, youths, and concerned citizens.

Attendees engaged in open discussions on addressing the country’s persistent law and order challenges. Prime Minister James Marape acknowledged CIMC’s tireless efforts in convening annual public forums since 1998, following a National Executive Council (NEC) decision. He commended CIMC’s role in fostering dialogue between the government, private sector, and civil society.

Mr. Marape emphasized the need for bold reforms in law and order, governance, and societal systems. He stressed that addressing these issues is not solely the responsibility of leaders, but a collective national duty.

The second event was a week-long joint conference hosted in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL) from April 7th–11th, 2025, in Lae, Morobe Province. Themed “Public-Private Sector Partnership,” the forum brought together over 200 participants, including agribusiness stakeholders, commercial and smallholder farmers (especially in poultry and livestock), and players in the agricultural supply chain for coffee, rubber, copra, cocoa, spices, and more. Key topics discussed included policy reforms, government-private sector collaboration, lack of Public Investment Program (PIP) funding in agriculture, avenues for local scientific research through institutions like the National Research Institute (NRI), and strategies to boost exports over imports.

A comprehensive report containing recommendations and solutions was submitted to Prime Minister Marape at the closing of the forum on Friday, April 11th. He praised CIMC, development partners, and DAL for their collaborative efforts and for concluding the conference successfully with timely submission of the report. CIMC continues to host annual forums, ensuring continuous consultation among government, the private sector, and civil society.

Recommendations generated through these forums are submitted to the government for consideration and implementation..
