NEW DELHI: US gear maker Ciena has secured a new contract from Microscan Infocomm , a pan-India Internet service provider (ISP), to upgrade the latter’s optical transport network (OTN) in key cities. Ciena has been lately bullish about growing its India business and working aggressively to tap government as well as ISP business, which it says present meaningful opportunities due to the ongoing digitalisation, cloud, and artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives. Advt “We have had some good wins in the enterprise, government, and ISP segments.

The latest one with Infocomm would see the deployment of our WaveLogic 5e solution, which would help modernise their networks and upgrade bandwidth speeds,” Amit Malik , vice president and sales leader, Ciena India , told ETTelecom. "The speeds, feeds, and the resulting savings would lead to lower total cost of ownership (TCO), but would also enable Microscan to target more enterprise customers. “We are helping fuel their desire to go out, acquire more customers, and become more competitive,” Malik added.

The companies, however, did not disclose the financials of the deal. Ciena does not break out its revenue segment-wise. Microscan will also leverage Ciena’s Navigator Network Control Suite (Navigator NCS) to automate and simplify planning, provisioning, and assurance operations across its network.

Additionally, Ciena’s 6500 compact 1.2T OTN switching on-a-blade solution with WaveLogic 5 Nano (WL5n) 400G coherent pluggable transceivers will provide Microscan significant space and power efficiencies. Advt Ciena would also provide implementation and network maintenance to sustain service reliability and performance for Microscan.

Founded by Sandeep Donde in 1999, Microscan provides high-speed, reliable, and low-latency fiber networking solutions in Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur and Goa. As part of its growth strategy, the company is now entering key markets such as Chennai, Bangalore, and Delhi to establish a nationwide fiber and National Long Distance (NLD) network. “Ciena’s coherent optic solutions will allow us to scale our network to meet the evolving digital needs of our customers, while also helping to expand into new business segments and markets.

Following the successful deployment, we will be able to deliver N X 100G transparent services and efficiently connect our data centers across Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur, and Goa,” said Padmanabhan Iyer, senior vice president (fibre networks), Microscan. In February this year, Tejays Dynamics partnered with Ciena to automate and modernise Internet Protocol (IP) network to serve the connectivity needs of its enterprise and campus customers.
