Chrono Trigger is widely considered to be one of the greatest Japanese RPGs ever made, and the stone cold classic just turned 30 years old. The most insane part, though? Chrono Trigger has never been remastered or even re-released on modern PlayStation consoles, despite being an absolute all-timer. But this three-decade anniversary has sparked some semblance of hope amongst fans.
Square Enix says that it has "a variety of projects" planned for the big three-oh — although the publisher's phrasing is rather vague at best. As translated by Gematsu , the statement reads: "We are planning a variety of projects over the next year that will go beyond the world of the game. Please look forward to the latest information.
" Unfortunately, we'll just have to wait and see what Square Enix is cooking. Chrono Trigger first launched for the SNES on the 11th March 1995 in Japan. Almost five years later, it was ported to the PS1 in November 1999.
However, the PlayStation version was never officially released in Europe until 2009 — close a whole decade later — thanks to a worldwide Nintendo DS port. Since then, the genre-defining title has been slapped on iOS, Android, and PC — but we're still waiting for that modern console edition..
