Conditions were less than ideal for smaller boats, and the fleet returned with mixed results—but the only result that truly mattered was the 113.95kg Black Marlin landed by Christina Jerry aboard Sundance .
The rules of the Dunlop PNG Shootout are straightforward: the heaviest billfish over 96kg wins a bounty for the vessel and skipper. The skipper receives a percentage of the combined entry fees, while the boat reward follows a Calcutta-style auction. Each boat is auctioned off, and the total auction values form a cash pool.
The reward is then calculated and awarded to the successful bidder of the vessel that lands the heaviest billfish. Ms. Jerry’s effort was no small feat and delivered excellent returns for skipper Silas Yawe and the successful auction bidder, Wayne “Ma” Baker.
Beyond the glory of victory, Ms. Jerry also received the Moore Printing Catch of the Day award, presented by Bob O’Dae..
