San Francisco 49ers star Christian McCaffrey is currently on injured reserve as he deals with a lingering case of Achilles tendonitis. McCaffrey did not play in any of the 49ers' first three games, and still must remain sidelined for at least a couple of more weeks. The way the latest update from the team sounds, it might be a while before the 2023 Offensive Player of the Year returns.

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan informed reporters Monday that McCaffrey is currently in Europe as he seeks treatment for his troublesome Achilles. " #49ers RB Christian McCaffrey traveled to Germany over the weekend to visit with a specialist, coach Kyle Shanahan said. He's expected to spend a few days there this week to get help for his ailing Achilles," tweeted ESPN's Nick Wagoner .

The 49ers have been walloped by injuries in the early going this season, with McCaffrey, Nick Bosa and Deebo Samuel all banged up, among others. Quarterback Brock Purdy is also dealing with a sore back, Shanahan said Monday, and starting defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw will miss the remainder of the season with a torn triceps.

After beating the New York Jets in Week 1, San Francisco has dropped back-to-back games to the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams. They face a must-win game in Week 4 against the 1-2 New England Patriots. Related: NFL Fans Saddened By Christian McCaffrey's Injury Setback.
