Former Penn State and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin suffered what appeared to be a gruesome lower leg injury late in Monday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. The injury occurred after Godwin pulled down a pass across the middle near his own 40-yard line with his team trailing 41-31 with 43 seconds to go. Godwin went down between two defenders, with his lower left leg getting trapped under the body of Roquan Smith and bending awkwardly.

Godwin crawled forward on the field and pushed his face into the grass in obvious pain and frustration. Medical personnel attended to him on the field, placing his leg in a cast, and loading him onto a cart. Television declined to show a replay of the injury.

Many of his teammates, including quarterback Baker Mayfield, came over to show their support for him before he was wheeled off the field. “He is beloved,” announcer Joe Buck said. “Salute from the crowd.

He is a tremendous player. He has been so visible helping this great community post Hurricanes.” Godwin caught seven passes for 65 yards in the game.

A third-round pick out of Penn State in 2017, he had 43 catches for 511 yards and five touchdowns this season. Godwin has 572 catches for 7,201 yards and 39 touchdowns in his career..
