China’s security chief Chen Wenqing has called for a “resolute crackdown” on separatists in Tibetan areas, reports the South China Morning Post. He issued this call during a recent visit to the region amidst heightened security measures there ahead of China’s National Day on October 1. Maintaining stability and countering independence movements are the top priorities for security forces, according to Chen.
Chen, who heads the ruling Communist Party’s top security body, also emphasized the need to manage religious affairs carefully, allowing normal religious activities while preventing risks, cracking down on crimes, and upholding stability. His four-day tour included visits to the Tibet autonomous region and the Ganzi Tibetan autonomous prefecture in Sichuan province. This trip, Chen’s first regional inspection since July, comes as China prepares to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic.
