A Chinese man planning to propose marriage to his girlfriend had hidden a gold ring inside a cake he had prepared for her. But instead of surprising his girlfriend, he was taken aback to find that the hungry woman had eaten the dessert and even chewed up the ring. The incident was shared on social media by the woman only identified as Liu from southwest China's Sichuan province, South China Morning Post ( SCMP ) reported.

She titled the post: “Attention, All Men: Never Hide a Proposal Ring in Food!” In her post, Liu said when she came home hungry one evening, she immediately thought of eating the meat floss cake her boyfriend had prepared for her. “The cake was covered with a thick layer of meat floss, so I was just chewing it until I bit into something hard. I immediately spat it out,” she said.

When her boyfriend inspected the cake and the foreign object, he reportedly told her: “Honey, I think this might be the ring I was going to propose to you with.” Liu initially thought he was joking but on closer inspection, she realised that the object indeed was a gold ring that she had chewed and broken into two pieces. The incident left the couple in an awkward situation.

To diffuse the tension, Liu's boyfriend asked her: “What do we do now? Should I still kneel?” to which she laughed and eventually, the couple joyfully agreed to get married . On social media, Liu described the incident as the “most dramatic scene of the year”. “This will be a memory we will never forget, but this proposal method is a bit risky.

I hope others take our story as a caution and avoid trying it themselves," she told the Xiaoxiang Morning Herald ..
