In a sharp rebuke, China on Wednesday criticized the hijacking of a passenger train in Pakistan's Balochistan province by militants. The Chinese government is open to enhancing counter-terrorism efforts in partnership with Pakistan, following the attack by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). The Jaffar Express was targeted by militants who derailed it using explosives, leading to the hijacking of the train carrying around 400 passengers.
Security forces succeeded in rescuing 190 passengers and eliminating 30 militants as the conflict continued into a second day. China expressed grave concerns about the safety of its nationals working on the $60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, stressing the importance of security in joint ventures. Pakistan has been urged to bolster security to shield Chinese workers from terrorist attacks.
