Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ baby girl, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas has been a fighter ever since her birth. She was born to the celebrity couple via surrogacy on January 15, 2022. However, the couple couldn’t bring her home immediately as she was premature.
After spending over 100 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at an LA hospital, she was given to her parents in May 2022. Priyanka on Malti Marie premature birth In various interviews, Priyanka recalled those days that were spent in the hospital praying for Malti’s health. During an emotional conversation with Today, the actress said she didn’t have the luxury to be scared and had to be strong for her baby.
“I realized very, very early that I did not have the luxury to be scared or to be weak because she was scared and weak. And I had to be her strength as her mom. I needed to make her feel at every given moment that she’s not alone .
.. that we’ve got her,” Priyanka said.

I couldn’t sleep for days because now suddenly she was home without a monitor. I used to put my ear on her chest.
I would wake up every couple of minutes just to see if she was okay. For weeks, this went on.” Talking to British Vogue, Priyanka revealed that she ‘didn’t know whether Malti would make it or nor’.
She told, “I was in the OR [operating room] when she came out. She was so small, smaller than my hand. I saw what the intensive-care nurses do.
They do God’s work. Nick and I were both standing there as they intubated her. I don’t know how they even found what they needed (in her tiny body) to intubate her.
” Recalling the first three months of seeing Malti in the NICU, Priyanka shared, “We spent every single day with her on my chest, on my husband’s chest. I didn’t know if she would make it or not.” Priyanka on opting for surrogacy Priyanka also told the magazine the reason behind opting for surrogacy.
“I had medical complications, (so) this was a necessary step, and I’m so grateful I was in a position where I could do this,” she mentioned. Malti will turn three in January 2025. Her name has a special connection with her grandmothers.
