Chief minister leads ceremonial welcome for Penang's 9th Yang di-Pertua Negeri

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government, led by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, welcomed Tun Ramli Ngah Talib as the ninth Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Penang during an official ceremony today.

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government, led by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, welcomed Tun Ramli Ngah Talib as the ninth Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Penang during an official ceremony today.The 84-year-old former Dewan Rakyat Speaker will assume office on May 1.In a Facebook post, Chow shared photographers of the event attended by members of his administration and their spouses.

"It is a great honour to welcome the arrival of Tun (Ramli Ngah Talib) and his wife, Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah, to Penang," Chow said."On behalf of the state government, I once again extend my congratulations on the appointment of Tun (Ramli Ngah Talib) as the new Yang di-Pertua Negeri."May the state of Penang continue to grow and achieve many successes in the future.



" Present was Chow's wife Tan Lean Kee.Also present were Speaker of the Penang State Legislative Assembly Datuk Seri Law Choo Kiang and his wife, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid and his wife, Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo and his wife, State Secretary Datuk Zulkifli Long and his wife, along with other members of the state government leadership.Ramli received the instrument of appointment from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, at Istana Negara on April 24, where he was also conferred the Seri Maharaja Mangku Negara (SMN) award which carries the title 'Tun'.

He succeeds Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, who served since May 1, 2021. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd.
