The Chicago Sky enjoyed an encouraging 2024 campaign, thanks in large part to the emergence of rookie center Angel Reese. However, they didn't qualify for the postseason, and the team decided to fire head coach Teresa Weatherspoon after just one season with Chicago. Weatherspoon's firing was rather shocking, especially since it hadn't even been a year since the Sky had hired her in the first place.
After they fired Weatherspoon, though, the team needed to find a new head coach, and it seems like they have made their move. Reports emerged on Saturday afternoon indicating that Chicago had locked in on Las Vegas Aces assistant Tyler Marsh as their top candidate in the hiring process. Sure enough, it was announced shortly after that Marsh had in fact been hired to replace Weatherspoon as the team's next head coach.
Marsh has spent the past three seasons working with Becky Hammon on the Aces coaching staff, so he's seen firsthand how one of the top teams in the league operates, with the Sky hoping he can bring some of their success with him to Chicago. Along with his assistant coaching duties, Marsh was the head of player development, as he played a big role in working with the likes of A'ja Wilson and Jackie Young to help them improve their games on the floor. © Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images The Sky will be looking for Marsh to help the Sky's young core, spearheaded by Reese, turn into a consistent playoff contender after they just fell short last season.
If he can do that, they could quickly become one of the top teams in the league. This is a big change for Chicago, and they are hoping it will pay off and help them take a massive stride forward in the 2025 campaign. With the move being official, Marsh will be looking to hit the ground running, which means he'll likely get to work with his new squad as soon as possible.
