Heading into the NFL offseason, there is one intriguing former Florida State Seminoles star to keep a close eye on. He has also become one of the most talked about players set to become a free agent. Josh Sweat is fresh off of an impressive Super Bowl winning run with the Philadelphia Eagles .
In the big game itself, he wreaked havoc on the Kansas City Chiefs to the tune of six tackles and 2.5 sacks. Now, he's ready to cash in with a big deal.
Whether that deal will come with the Eagles or another team remains to be seen. That being said, a new team has been linked as a potential suitor for him. Mike Pendleton of Bears Wire has suggested that the Chicago Bears should view Sweat as a potential target this offseason.
He would join forces with Montez Sweat off of the edge. "There may be a situation where he capitalizes on his 2024 season where he compiled 41 tackles and 8.0 sacks, and a Sweat-Sweat tandem could very much help the Bears pass rush," Pendleton wrote.
"The major concern for a player like Sweat, coming off a Super Bowl performance where he played well enough to win Super Bowl MVP, could be too pricey for the Bears if they find value elsewhere." After starring for Florida State during his college career that saw him rack up 14.5 sacks in three years, Sweat has continually improved throughout his NFL career.
During the 2024 regular season, Sweat ended up playing in 16 games. He racked up 41 total tackles, eight sacks, and two defended passes. Throughout his 104 NFL games, he has totaled 43 sacks and seven forced fumbles.
At 27 years old, Sweat will be a big pickup both now and in the future for whoever signs him. He's got plenty of time left playing at an elite level. It will be interesting to see who ends up signing the former Seminole this offseason.
Keep an eye on the Bears as a potential landing spot..
