A teenager is facing jail after he left a man with "very significant" injuries following a one-punch attack. Bradley Cowley struck the victim, who was unknown to him, in Newcastle City Centre on on December 10 2023. A court was told that the male was taken to hospital with "very significant" injuries and required treatment.
Cowely, of Hill Mead, near Chester-le-Street , in County Durham , was arrested and pleaded guilty to one count of causing grievous bodily harm without intent when he appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court this week. Prosecutor, Clare Irving, said: "This is a Section 20 GBH case. "It's a single punch that results in very, very significant injuries.
The impact on the victim is very significant." The court was told that Cowely had pleaded guilty, was remorseful, had on past convictions and was in full-time employment. Adjourning the case for the preparation of a pre-sentence report, District Judge Natalie Wortley said: "The injuries and impact on the victim were very significant.
This is a case that might ultimately be sent to the crown court for sentence.
