The arrested individual was identified as KV Kishore, 25, a native of Kumarapalayam near Bhavani in Namakkal district. According to police, the woman was travelling from Karur to Chennai in an express train, occupying a second-class sleeper coach on August 25.

As she emerged from the washroom in the vicinity of Katpadi railway station, she discovered the suspect, Kishore, engaging in obscene behaviour in front of her, blocking the way. When she raised objections to his conduct, he misbehaved with her. She rushed from the spot to her berth.

Additionally, she captured a photograph of the suspect using her mobile phone. As she did not encounter the man again within the compartment, she maintained her silence. Upon disembarking from the train at Chennai Central railway station, she sought assistance from the Government General Hospital, requesting the hospital staff to examine her for any potential sexually transmitted diseases.

During the inquiry, she disclosed to the hospital staff that she had been sexually assaulted while on the train. Consequently, the hospital staff notified the Chennai Central railway police about the incident. The GRP police chief, S Vanitha, instructed her personnel to assemble special teams to apprehend the suspect.

The team, led by the railway superintendent of police (SP) I Eswaran, successfully tracked down the suspect. After the woman shared the suspect's photograph with the investigating officers, they meticulously scrutinised the train passengers who had travelled on the same train and narrowed their focus on Kishore. The police are currently investigating the woman engineer for potentially fabricating details in her complaint.

The apprehended suspect, Kishore, will be remanded in judicial custody. (The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault).
