Traffic chaos in has prompted a hundred residents to call for better coordination over road closures. People of Swindon Village and Wymans Brook are calling for strict adherence to roadwork time frames from developers. The petition which was handed to seeks an end to the road closures, congestion and chaos in the area.

Cheltenham Frank Allen (LD, Swindon Village) and Cllr Flo Clucas (LD, Swindon Village) drafted the petition, which asked for concrete action which also included upgrades to the Swindon Road bridge and more transparency from the County Council and developers around closures. Cllr Allen said: “The situation with the roads in Swindon Village and North West Cheltenham is dire. We are seeing businesses affected, jobs disrupted, and residents badly hurt as a result of the road mismanagement.

"This is unacceptable. The County Council must take action to properly coordinate road closures and engage proactively about them; take action on the Swindon Road bridge to ease traffic and improve safety; and enforce strict adherence from developers and utilities to the time frames they have proposed. "We thank Gloucestershire County Council for their initial response to the petition.

However, Flo, Bernie and I will not stop fighting until we can see real improvements being made to end the road chaos which our residents, and the people of Cheltenham, are suffering." The online petition was launched in early August and was submitted to Gloucestershire County Council, via the petitions website, on 30 September. County Councillor Suzanne Williams (LD, Hesters Way and Springbank) presented the petition to the highways cabinet member Dom Morris (C, Fairford and Lechlade) at Shire Hall on November 6.
