Celebrity chef James Martin has opened up about the tough times he experienced after being diagnosed with cancer in 2017. While speaking on the Good Food podcast, he told host Samuel Goldsmith that despite undergoing surgery, his health woes had "returned on several occasions" and required "regular treatments." During the conversation, James reflected on his journey: "When you're going through the hell that I've gone through in the last six years and you've just been given the all clear.

" He shared how receiving both the initial diagnosis and eventually being told he was clear of cancer affected him deeply, saying: 'When you get given that news, it's horrific, but when you're given the news at the end of it, it makes you think in a different light.'". James also disclosed that his bout with cancer often left him dealing with excruciating pain.

After first hearing he had the disease, he acknowledged thinking about preparations for his own funeral. In addition to battling cancer, James recounted "one of the most fraught and difficult periods" in his life, including the passing of his grandfather and a burglary at his property, reports Gloucestershire Live . Amidst these trying circumstances, James experienced challenges while filming at his residence which resulted in an altercation where he admits losing his cool with the production team, leading to some staff members breaking down in tears.

Ultimately, he conceded that he had "over-reacted" during the incident that erupted due to a clogged drain. He penned a heartfelt apology, stating: "After all this stress I was in a very emotional state, and when after filming in early January 2018 I discovered my home had been flooded while filming, I was extremely upset." He continued: "I can only say I am human and following a build-up of personal life pressure.

" James has since dedicated effort to improving his well-being, noting that healthier eating habits have made him "mellower" as an individual. On the Spooning with Mark Wogan podcast, James confessed that his passion for cars was the true motivation behind his weight loss, revealing: "It comes down to the fact that I race cars, or I still try and race a few cars and I actually struggle to get out of them now. "Getting in them, you kind of fall in them, but then you've got to get out of them and it just doesn't look very good.

" Now focusing on the future rather than dwelling on the past, James has taken the helm at his own establishment, the Lygon Arms in the Cotswolds, and is even mapping out his long-term aspirations. He shared his vision: "I've got this dream. I'd have my own place called Eight which would be open eight days a month serving an eight-course menu to 18 people.
