When Atlanta Motor Speedway was transformed into the 1.5-mile younger brother of Daytona and Talladega, NASCAR drivers were skeptical. Since 2022, fans of the sport have embraced the track even if drivers haven’t.
Chase Elliott thinks that should change. The Georgia driver knows a lot of folks in the state and around Atlanta. From what he’s hearing lately, the new Atlanta is doing good things for NASCAR.
Everyone is starting to catch on that this is the new action track. Earlier today, Chase Elliott talked about the new configuration of the track, and the initial driver perception. He also touched on why he thinks it has been a success.
“I can’t speak for the rest of them, but for me, living pretty close by, I hear comments and I hear opinions about the race and people that actually come and attend and watch the races – so it’s much easier, I think for me, to kind of get behind it when I see the positive reaction to a race and people kind of speaking highly of the race track because for so many years, I heard nothing but the opposite,” Elliott said, via Alan Cavanna . “So, I think that it’s easy for me to be like – well you know what, that was fun for us, but the people that came down here and watched didn’t really love that. And now, it’s totally reversed.
I think some of the drivers probably don’t necessarily love that we added two more speedways. But the people that come down here and support us seem to really like that. So that’s why I can get on board with it, just because I’ve interacted with the people that attend this track probably a little more than others.
” Chase Elliott would know a little more than others. And the point he makes is excellent as well. NASCAR fans are the most important group at times.
The new Atlanta has not cheapened the season in any way. Instead, NASCAR and Speedway Motorsports, have discovered something fantastic. In fact, the track delivered another photo finish in the Truck Series this afternoon.
Kyle Busch put together a last-lap pass like only he can do. There is a new attitude to Chase Elliott. He appears to have his swagger back this season.
Perhaps winning the Clash at Bowman Gray has done a lot for his confidence, or he just feels good this year. Either way, it’s been nice to see. This article first appeared on 5 GOATs and was syndicated with permission.
