A third-generation Orangeburg attorney has started his own law firm. Charlie H. Williams III has opened The Williams Firm, LLC at 370 St.
Paul Street. It is the same location where his father, Charles H. Williams II, and grandfather, the late Sen.
Marshall Williams, practiced law. It was also where his mother, the late Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals Chief Judge Karen Williams, began her career as a lawyer. Williams worked for 16 years at the Williams and Williams law firm before starting his own.
"Oddly, I don’t feel like I have left the firm my family built because I am actually where it all started originally,” he said. “I’m in the same building where my grandfather Marshall, my father Charles and my mother Karen started their law careers – in the same office that I came to as a kid and saw my parents blossom into the tremendous lawyers they became,” he said. “I have a lot of great memories here and enjoy the location.
” “It has been nice to have my father checking in and telling me about the old days and reminiscing on his legal career, sharing his wisdom,” Williams continued. “Many of my clients remark about the character of this office and share stories about meeting with my grandfather, father and mother when they visited on prior occasions. It makes me proud to hear of their legacies and how they helped so many people in our community.
” Williams seeks to provide individualized service. “My commitment to building strong relationships with each client is at the core of my practice,” he said. “I aim to meet their legal needs with the same care and professionalism I would want for my own family.
” Williams said Orangeburg is a “small community where relationships are paramount.” “Having grown up here and now raising my four children in the area, I am dedicated to fostering a supportive environment that they will want to give back to as they grow older,” Williams said. “My goal is to make our community a better place for future generations.
” Marshall Williams founded his law firm in 1936. His son, Charles H. Williams II, joined the firm in 1975 and it became known throughout the state as Williams and Williams.
Charles married Karen, who began working at the law firm in 1980 before serving on the bench of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals — the first woman ever to do so. Charlie Williams’ younger brother, David, continues to practice law at Williams and Williams. As he embarks on his own, Charlie Williams says the firm is all about service to the residents of Orangeburg, Calhoun, Bamberg and Dorchester counties.
“I want individuals to feel at ease coming to me during their most challenging times, knowing that I genuinely care about their well-being and am here to help,” Williams said. “Navigating the legal system after a serious accident or criminal accusation can be overwhelming.” “People need to feel heard, understood and valued, in addition to receiving guidance through the legal process,” he continued.
“I find it deeply fulfilling not just to assist as a lawyer, but also to be someone who listens to their needs and concerns, offering counsel grounded in my experiences and knowledge of the law.” The law firm is general practice that focuses on personal injury cases (such as automobile accidents, trucking accidents, wrongful death, slip-and-fall injuries, etc.) and criminal defense cases.
An Orangeburg native, Williams attended Orangeburg Preparatory School and graduated from Woodberry Forest School in Orange, Virginia in 2000. He graduated with honors from Wofford College in 2004. He then worked as a licensed Realtor for Scalise Realty in Myrtle Beach.
In 2009, he received his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Williams is married to Lauren Blake (Smith) Williams of Bamberg. They have one daughter, Lilly, and three sons: Cholly, Marshall and Brooker.
When not practicing law, Williams is the chairman of the Alzheimer's Association South Carolina Chapter. The law firm can be found on Facebook by searching for: The Williams Law Firm, LLC. The law firm can be reached at 803-937-5055.
