Charli XCX controversially dissed the iconic pop punk band Green Day when she didn't get a headlining spot at Coachella . The pop star found herself in a primetime spot at the California music festival, but that wasn't quite good enough for her. During an after party, she donned a silk sash that said “Miss Should Be Headliner” over top of a minidress.
She posed next to the DJ as she wore a skinny belt and dark shades as accessories. With a proud and bold style, Charli wasn't afraid to let her ego show a bit even though it was Green Day that she was stacking herself up against. She had a stand out summer after releasing her latest album Brat, leaving her with a hefty fanbase to rally behind her.
However, that wasn't enough to stop many music enjoyers for calling out her disrespect. After all, Green Day is known for their significant impact on rock music with a discography spanning back to '80s. They've maintained their cultural relevance over the decades, raking in fans of new and old.
Their biggest hits — like Boulevard of Broken Dreams, American Idiot, 21 Guns, and Wake Me Up When September Ends — broke through the rock noise with many of them even making it on mainstream pop radio, despite the typical turn off from alternative-styled music. Throughout their career, they've received 214 award nominations and 92 wins. In addition to their musical feats, the band are notably political activists, challenging the country's status quo.
In fact, they even used that headlining slot at Coachella to advocate for Palestine, causing uproar from Zionists. Famously, they also added in a chant during their performances, commanding, "No Trump. No KKK.
No fascist USA." A fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, responded to Charli's declaration, writing, "actually i’m glad the headliner was the one who sang against maga and for palestine." "legends aren’t even allowed to perform anymore because twinks want coke princess 3000 you literally can’t make this s--t up," a second fan said.
A third added, "green day making a political statement about s--t that actually matters > pop girlies singing about coke." Fans seemed to turn on Charli after the pop world previously clung to her success last year. A fan wrote, "If they had an award for the most bitter artist, she'd consistently win.
Not surprised tho, she represents 'fans' that started listening to music yesterday. They'll never know how goated Green Day is." The "bitter artist" allegations age back to Brat's album release when fans accused Taylor Swift of purposefully blocking Charli from the charts — a theory that was debunked.
Thereafter, fans theorized Charli was dropping shade toward the pop princess in her songs and photo shoots, including an image of a severed hand wearing friendship bracelets, which is a symbol commonly associated with Taylor. While Taylor previously brought Charli as an opener on tour, the Apple singer did not shut down any speculation of bad blood between the pair.
