Charleston sandwich shop reopens 7 months after a Maserati drove through the front door

Anthony Marini stood inside his Charleston sandwich shop in the middle of a February night after a Maserati drove through the front door . As he looked at the car parts and glass shards scattered across the dining room, Marini could have never predicted that his team at The Pass Panino and Provisions would be able to reopen five days later and successfully sell sandwiches out of a takeout window for seven months. That’s exactly what they did.

Since that fateful February day, The Pass has stayed just as busy — sometimes busier — as it was before the Maserati sedan careened through its wooden façade. N.J.

establishment will notice a few small changes, including new counter seating. Otherwise, it’s back to business as usual at the small shop serving sandwiches like The Italian Girl with roasted turkey, burrata and sweet cherry pepper aioli. The Pass reopened its dining room Sept.

"It's been a lot of fun to get all these customers in," said Marini, who got a visit from Mayor William Cogswell at a Sept. 12 ribbon cutting. The widespread support for The Pass throughout the year has inspired Marini to consider opening additional locations in the Lowcountry.

He also plans to add a tasting menu dinner concept at the Cannonborough-Elliottborough original in the coming months. The Pass is open 10 a.m.
