When it comes to helping good causes, the folk of Bolton have always been quick to respond

When it comes to helping good causes, the folk of Bolton have always been quick to respond. In the early 1990s, the Bolton Evening News backed the Pedal for a Medal event which raised funds for the leading children’s charity Barnados and its project work in the North West. Cyclists of all levels were encouraged to pay an entry fee to take part in the bike ride which would start on Beaumont Road and finish on the playing fields of Deane School.

They were also encouraged to raise as much money as they could in sponsorship. It wasn’t a race, all those taking part could go at their own speed with everyone who raised sponsorship money being presented with a medal and a ceertficate went to everyone who comleted the course on the day. The event was open to all the family with a minimum age limit of 11.

Many organisations and companies entered teams, often competing in fancy dress. Do you remember the Pedal for a Medal events?.
