Los Angeles Chargers fans have been worried all week about their star quarterback Justin Herbert's injured right ankle. Herbert hurt his ankle in last week's win over the Carolina Panthers, and while he didn't miss a snap as a result of the injury, the fifth-year vet sat out of practice Wednesday and Friday and is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. "Thankfully, it's only Friday," Herbert said yesterday.

"It is what it is. It's all about getting treatment and making sure that it's at its best and doing everything I can to limit the swelling, limit the pain and just keep things moving forward." Herbert said his ankle improved as the week progressed, but he still wanted to make sure it got to a point where he could move as freely as possible.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported Saturday afternoon there is "optimism" that Herbert will be able to start as usual. Michael Owens/Getty Images "Herbert is listed as questionable and will test the ankle before the game. But the hope is he goes," Rapoport tweeted.

Should Herbert, who spent two weeks in a walking boot during training camp due to a plantar fascia injury, not be able to play, backup Easton Stick would get the first call to replace him. Through two weeks, Herbert is 31-of-46 passing for 274 yards, three touchdowns and one interception as the Chargers have rode their running game and defense to a 2-0 start under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. Tomorrow's matchup with the Steelers will kick off at 1 p.
