The Los Angeles Chargers won a game they should have won on Sunday, beating up on a New Orleans Saints team that has now lost six games in a row. For all of the good that the Chargers put out there in this game, there was one takeaway that easily stood out above the rest. Ladd McConkey had himself a day.

The Chargers have been hearing about their wide receiver position all offseason, ever since the decision was made to trade Keenan Allen and not re-sign Mike Williams in free agency. Instead, the team chose to go with a new wide receiver room but when they used a second-round pick to get McConkey out of Georgia, this is what they envisioned. It's why they signed him to a record rookie contract .

Ladd McConkey will become the Chargers' WR1 The Chargers have gotten plays from Quentin Johnston and even Simi Fehoko at times this season, but with D.J. Chark still nursing an injury, McConkey should become the focal point of this team's passing game.

The combination of his speed and ability to get open along with a great set of hands will give Justin Herbert exactly what he has been lacking in the offense. You could see how comfortable Herbert was in throwing McConkey the ball in this game and if the team can build on that, this kid will become a star. It took seven games and McConkey, who had shown flashes earlier this year, broke out onto the scene on Sunday.

The Chargers have to be very excited about what the future holds with the Herbert-to-McConkey connection. This should quiet those talks of Cooper Kupp being traded from the Rams..
