NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Tuesday said that by promoting Atishi as the future chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal had pushed Delhi towards "chaos and communism". "Delhi citizens, who are already suffering under a corrupt govt, will now have to endure an anti-national one. History shows that Atishi has held anti-national and anti-social views on various issues," he alleged.
The Delhi BJP president said, "By admitting that Kejriwal will remain the real CM, Atishi has declared herself to be a puppet CM...
.AAP functionaries are trying to give the party a makeover, but they will not be able to hide the black stains of corruption, incompetence and chaos". Sachdeva added: "Kejriwal may change the face of his govt, but in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections , corruption will definitely be an issue".
The Delhi BJP president further alleged, "Kejriwal has been and will continue to be guilty in the eyes of people. His corruption and incompetence have made Delhi the world's most polluted and underdeveloped capital." The BJP MP from South Delhi, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, said that making Atishi the new chief minister of Delhi would not wash away the "sins" of Kejriwal govt.
"Kejriwal had to put Atishi in his place because Supreme Court had imposed restrictions on him," he alleged. North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari alleged that Atishi followed an urban-Naxal ideology and her very name reflected this. " AAP has harboured tanker mafias and been responsible for the deaths of children due to waterlogging.
The damage Kejriwal has done to Delhi cannot be undone by a resignation or the appointment of a temporary chief minister," he stated further. South Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat claimed that for the past few months, Atishi had been wielding the powers of the chief minister unofficially. New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj said, "Atishi's statement shows that she is not a real leader, just a mask." Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta alleged that Delhi's leadership was being handed over to a woman whose family members were active in efforts to save Afzal Guru, the main accused in the Parliament attack. Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said AAP should reply whether they agreed with her family's stand on Afzal Guru.
Hitting back, AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh alleged that if there was any party that was the biggest anti-national in India, it was BJP. "BJP formed an alliance with PDP, which considers Afzal Guru a martyr, and made a PDP member the deputy chief minister in its govt," he said. "We do not need to learn nationalism from those whose forefathers acted as agents for the British during the independence struggle.
