VIJAYAWADA: TDP and YSRCP defended Union home minister Amit Shah in the controversy about his purported remarks against Dr BR Ambedkar. Andhra Pradesh chief minister and TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu said that opposition parties will keep trying to make a hole out of nothing to trouble the ruling party. Speaking to the ministers on political issues after the cabinet meeting on Thursday, Naidu reported to have referred to Amit Shah’s comments on Ambedkar and the controversy surrounded it.

“Sometimes people will wantonly create controversies out of nothing. They will not take the good intensions behind it because they want only controversy. Blowing Amit Shah’s comment out of proportion is one of such incidents,” Naidu reported to have commented.

He said that Dr Ambedkar was never given due respect by the Congress party. In fact, congress defeated Ambedkar twice in the elections, referred Naidu. He said that Dr Ambedkar statue in parliament was installed when VP Singh was prime minister as Congress PMs were not keen to honour the legendary leader.

Naidu said that he was also branded as an anti-farmer in the past by spreading false statements. He said that though he had never said that agriculture is a waste practice then opposition parties vigorously campaigned to brand him as an anti-farmer. The chief minister guarded the minister to be very careful while speaking in public keeping the sensitive issues in mind.

TDP is official partner of NDA in the Centre and also state. However, YSRCP which is not partner of NDA has also extended its indirect support to Amit Shah. In a late-night response on social media platform X, YSRCP said that BJP members and Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke eloquently about Dr Ambedkar after the controversy erupted out of Amit Shah’s reported comments.

Party felt that it was heartening to see that BJP leaders praised Dr Ambedkar. “Dr Ambedkar’s ideology of equal rights and respect for the poor is DNA of YSRCP. To reflect that spirit, the YSRCP govt installed the world's largest statue of Ambedkar in the heart of the city of Vijayawada and built a wonderful memorial.

Ambedkar will be a role model not only for us but for the whole of India,” said YSRCP in a statement. The party said that it would not accept even if someone deliberately insulted Ambedkar. It is totally wrong if someone utter a word against Dr Ambedkar.
