Environment Canada says high winds could lead to some big waves along the northern coast of Prince Edward Island on Friday. The weather agency issued a special weather statement for Prince and Queens counties warning of higher than normal water levels along north-facing coastlines tomorrow afternoon during high tide. "It's talking about the high tide tomorrow and coinciding with some higher wind gusts that are going to happen tonight and into tomorrow," said CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin.

"You know the waves are rocking when the wind gets this high, and that's what's going to happen." (Jay Scotland/CBC) Environment Canada expects maximum wave heights to reach three to five metres, along with pounding surf as the waves break near the shore. "These large waves can cause coastal erosion in vulnerable areas, as well as damage to infrastructure along the shoreline, especially at locations that have been prone to impacts during similar events," the agency said in the special weather statement.

With Thursday also expected to see wind gusts of up to 60 km/h, Simpkin said similar conditions could also be expected along the shore today..
