GRAND FORKS – Former Grand Forks Central standout Chance Colgrove picked up another multi-hit performance for the Grand Forks Royals in Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Bismarck Governors on Thursday. The run-scoring triple marked his 17th RBI on the season, an American Legion season that marks a return from college baseball at Minnesota-Crookston for Colgrove. “It’s obviously nice to have a kid return from college with some senior leadership in a team that is pretty young,” Royals coach Nick Chine said.

“It’s a nice luxury to have. We’re happy that he came back.” Colgrove, who hit .

410 for Central in 2022, is a redshirt freshman for the Golden Eagles after not seeing any games in his true freshman season. However, that didn’t take away the value of that first go-around, as he continued to add knowledge to his game. “I got to be around some of the best talent in the area,” Colgrove said.

“I took away things that I’ve put in my game, and it’s made a difference.” ADVERTISEMENT As the third or fourth hitter for the Royals this summer, he has been one of their most consistent batters. He’s been able to string together 10 multi-hit games.

“Last year I was swinging at pitches I probably shouldn’t be swinging at and college really fixed that. This year going from college pitching to this pitching has been a little easier and my pitch selection has been better. That’s allowed me to find my pitches, barrel up the ball and do what I do best,”.
