Team India have made it clear to the International Cricket Council (ICC) that they will not be touring Pakistan for the Champions Trophy and want their matches as well as the final to be organised in Dubai but the Pakistani government have ruled out the possibility of a ‘hybrid model’ for this tournament.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also written to the ICC seeking a detailed response why India are refusing to tour their nation. There was talk that if Pakistan refuse the ‘hybrid model’ the tournament could be moved entirely to South Africa. However, Cricket South Africa (CSA) have communicated their inability to host the Champions Trophy in February as SA20 will end just week before the event and the grounds will not be in any position to host the ICC tournament.

The report added that if Pakistan pulls out, then the ICC may have to pay huge compensation to the broadcasters as India vs Pakistan clash is a marquee game.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of Foreign Office in Pakistan, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, was asked questions at the weekly press briefing regarding the status of the ICC tournament scheduled to be held in Pakistan early next year. “There is no back channel with India to specifically discuss the Champions Trophy and bilateral Cricket between Pakistan and India,” she quoted as saying by PTI news agency. She added that further details with regards to the holding of Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and the participation of the various teams was available with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which can share any further details.

Baloch went on to say that sports events should not be mixed with politics. “Pakistan has always said that sports should not be politicized,” she said. Asked whether Pakistan plans to go ahead with the Champions Trophy if India persisted with its refusal to send its team, she said that the PCB was in contact with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to discuss the arrangements, including participation of different teams in the tournament.

“We would refer you to the Pakistan Cricket Board for any comments or clarification with regards to this issue,” she said. For breaking news and live news updates, like us on or follow us on and . Read more on Latest on .
