Chael Sonnen has given himself a pat on the back after Carlos Prates was announced to be the main event of UFC Kansas City . Carlos Prates was set to fight Geoff Neal in April. However, Neal pulled out of UFC 314 due to injury, leaving Prates without a fight on the card.
This was followed by more injury news, as Khalil Rountree Jr’s fight with Jamahal Hill was cancelled after Hill suffered an injury. This left a spot open in the main event on April 26 which was quickly filled at short notice by two exciting fighters, something Chael Sonnen was happy to take the credit for. Chael Sonnen thinks he’s responsible for Ian Machado Garry being Carlos Prates’ replacement After the new main event of UFC Kansas City was announced, UFC legend Chael Sonnen was quick to take the credit for it.
On short notice, Ian Machado Garry agreed to fight Prates in the main event in a big match in the Welterweight division. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Sonnen labeled Prates a cult hero, while admitting that he did have a hand in getting him on the top of the card for his fight with Garry. “I implored the UFC to please give Carlos another look.
My belief is you’re underestimating his popularity. “I asked them, ‘Hey, could you give this another look? You’re missing the rise of a bit of a cult hero here. “So while I may have had nothing to do with this, I can’t help but feel that perhaps I did—because two days later, this morning, Carlos Prates gets announced for a main event against Ian Garry “At a minimum, if it doesn’t pertain to me, somebody did what I asked them to do, which was just a little bit of a deeper dive into Carlos.
“Go check social media, go check the pulse of the fans—you will find this is an important person. And now, he goes to a main event against Ian Garry. What a fight.

Garry could move onto a fight with Colby Covington following UFC Kansas City After he has his fight with Prates, Garry will be looking towards a fight with his long-time rival Colby Covington . Garry called out Covington after a win over Geoff Neal at UFC 298 last year, but has yet to step into the Octagon with the 37-year-old. So let me get this straight.

However, Covington avoided Garry when they almost had an altercation at a gym, hinting that he may not be so keen on the fight after all. Garry will want to beat Prates to show his worth and convince Covington to step into the Octagon with him after over a year of torment.
