Two members of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have been fined for excessive hits in their win over Hamilton last week. Safety Brandon Alexander and linebacker Tanner Cadwallader will have an extra deduction on their next paycheques, while one member of the Tiger-Cats, fullback James Tuck, will also pay for a late hit. Alexander was punished for a high hit on Hamilton receiver Kiondre Smith.

Cadwallader, playing special teams, will pay for a blindside block on Ticats long snapper Gordon Whyte. Tuck, also on special teams, was singled out for what the CFL calls a “late unnecessary” hit on Bombers kick returner Lucky Whitehead after a 14-yard return in the second quarter. Whitehead was down when Tuck came in late with a hit that was flagged for unnecessary roughness.

Alexander and Cadwallader were not initially penalized for their hits. The Winnipeg-Hamilton game accounted for half of the league’s six fines from Week 12. The amount of the fines is not disclosed, although they can be as high as half a player’s game cheque.

None of this week’s fines were described as maximum amounts..
