KICKBOXING: THE PNG Kickboxing Federation awarded certificates to 16 participants after a refresher course on refereeing and judging last week at the Taurama Aquatic Indoor Courts. President Stanley Nandex said the refresher course was to brush up on some of the rule changes ahead of the World Title Showdown that will be held on Saturday (tomorrow). It was facilitated by Master Jamuga Stone and himself at the Taurama Aquatic Indoor Centre.
“In order to also host such big events, refereeing and judging is also very important. Because there has been a lot of changes in the scoring system. In manual we used to have counting system but this one is quite different,” Nandex said.
“In every martial art and even in other parts of the other sports. Rules are very important that enable them to really compete much professionally. So, it’s fair and decisions are made according to the performance.
“Those were the new rules that have been applied and we have been briefed on, with judging and refereeing. We’ve gone through a good session. It’s a level 2 training program.
” He said he was impressed as they were shown videos of some of the fighters, and were asked to give them a scoring without giving answers, and they were able to see the fights themselves on the professional level.
