When appearing for an interview, candidates usually expect to be asked questions relevant to the role they are applying for. But one CEO decided to take a different approach – by asking a Class-5 math question instead. In a recent LinkedIn post, a Bengaluru-based CEO named Ashish Gupta revealed that he visited a college campus to interview students from the departments of BCA, BBA and others.
He interviewed over 50 candidates and asked them a class-5 maths question: “If a car travels the first 60 km at 30 km/h and the next 60 km at 60 km/h, what is its average speed?”Representational imageApparently, only two candidates had the right answer. Others struggled. However, when asked about marketing strategies, they confidently discussed Instagram Reels, viral content, and digital trends.
The CEO made an observation.“This highlights a stark reality—Gen Z is highly skilled in social media but lacks fundamental problem-solving, logical reasoning, and financial literacy. If these trends continue, we may have a generation struggling with personal finance, decision-making, and analytical skills.
”He urged educators to bridge this gap because, according to him, critical thinking and basic maths are non-negotiable life skills.Have a look at his full LinkedIn post here:But wait.
