ROCHESTER — Rochester Century powered its way to its fifth consecutive Big Nine Conference girls swimming and diving championship on Saturday at the Rochester Recreation Center. The Panthers won three of 12 events and piled up 368 points, good for a comfortable victory over runner-up Northfield (277). Rochester Mayo played third with 274 points and John Marshall finished sixth (184).
ADVERTISEMENT For Century, Chloe Magnuson won the 50 freestyle, in 24.71 seconds, while Sophia Blixt captured the championship in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.67).
The Panthers also won the meet's opening event, the 200 medley relay, in a time of 1:51.60. John Marshall's Julia Ogren captured a pair of conference titles, winning the 100 butterfly in 57.
37 seconds (good for a .37-second victory over Northfield's Nora Korteum) and the 100 freestyle in 52.13 seconds.
Century's Blixt was the runner-up in the 100 free, in 52.84 seconds. Mayo's Madeline Gau won the 500 freestyle in 5:18.
12. Austin also had two individual champions, with Alayna Kennedy winning the diving competition, with 436.30 points, and Gracie Greenman winning the 100 backstroke (:59.
52 seconds). Up next for Big Nine Conference teams are section meets. Century, John Marshall and Mayo will compete in the Section 1, Class 2A meet, Nov.
6-8, in Rochester. Swimming prelims (Nov. 6) and finals (Nov.
8) will be held at the Rochester Recreation Center, while the diving competition will take place at Century High School on Nov. 7. Team scores 1.
