The Centralia-Chehalis Chamber encourages businesses and citizens to participate in Two Lights for Tomorrow by placing two lights in their homes or businesses from dusk on Friday, April 18, to dawn on Saturday, April 19. Two Lights for Tomorrow is a nationwide initiative commemorating the 250th birthday of the United States. The famous ride of Paul Revere occurred during the night of April 18 into the dawn of April 19, 1775.
This initiative honors that historic event and uses the imagery of shining lights as a unifying call to action, encouraging all Americans to celebrate and serve. The Two Lights initiative pays tribute to the moment when Revere signaled the approach of British troops using lanterns in Boston’s Old North Church. It symbolizes unity, vigilance and the enduring pursuit of freedom, according to a news release from the chamber.
Organizers of America250 are calling for two lights to be displayed in every home, business and statehouse across the nation. These lights can be as simple as two candles or flashlights, or as elaborate as two spotlights. According to organizers, the goal is to create a visual symbol of light shining in the darkness, just as it did on the night of Revere’s ride.
This is an opportunity to raise public awareness of the upcoming 250th anniversary and how it will be visibly marked, while also reflecting on the meaning of Revere’s ride and reminding all citizens of their role in the ongoing effort to form a “more perfect union.” For more information, visit va250.org/two-lights .
