star Josh Widdicombe has explained why he wouldn't enjoy dating in the present day. Tonight's (October 25) special episode saw the armchair critics joined by some A-list faces, including comedian . Whilst watching , married Widdicombe revealed what his less than enthusiastic reaction would be if he found himself back in the dating world.
"D'you know what, if I'd got thrown back onto the dating scene I'd go 'oh, I can't be bothered now,''" he told Merchant. "I'm quite happy," Widdicombe continued, before Merchant added: "Just die alone." "Dying alone, fine," he concluded, as Merchant agreed: "Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I know what you mean." The duo turned their attention to where rapper Matt was attempting to find true love. Asked by Merchant if he would "bring out the rap" during a first date, Widdicombe laughed: "I tend to be freestyling, actually, rhymes.
" The end of the date saw the participants deciding if they want to see each other again. Discussing what he would do in that situation, Widdicombe revealed he would say yes to a second date "out of politeness on TV," adding that "you can always ghost them, later." Elsewhere in the episode, stars Kristin Scott Thomas and Saskia Reeves explained their own qualms with dating, revealing they hadn't been on a first date in a "really long time".
As they watched the hopeful singles embark on their journey, the actors discussed the importance of ambiance when meeting for the first time. "It's really hard, as well. I mean look at the lighting.
You've got to meet someone and it looks like a supermarket," said Scott Thomas. "Mind you, apparently that's where you meet people, supermarkets.".
