Celebrity Big Brother contestant Sir Michael Fabricant has finally addressed years of speculation about his unmistakable bleach-blonde hairstyle being a wig. On Monday night, the former Conservative MP, 74, made his entrance into the ITV reality show alongside a star-studded lineup including Hollywood actor Mickey Rourke , TV presenter Trisha Goddard and EastEnders icon Patsy Palmer . But before stepping into the Big Brother house, Fabricant decided to settle one of the most talked-about topics surrounding him: his hair.

Over the years, he has firmly denied wearing a wig, though he's admitted there’s been some help. Speaking to The Mirror in 2014, he said: “It’s a lot more complicated than that. OK, all I will admit to is that there is some – but only some – enhancement of the follicular area.

” He refused to say which part of his scalp had been “enhanced”. Ahead of entering the Celebrity Big Brother house, he addressed the chatter again with a cheeky one-liner in his intro video: “I can show you the receipts, it cost a fortune.” The quip seemed to suggest the hair may indeed be purchased — but whether it’s a wig or a more complicated hair system remains deliberately vague.

His hair has long been the subject of political whispers. Back in 2019 during Prime Minister’s Questions, cameras caught fellow MP Huw Merriman muttering “definitely a wig” to the colleague sitting next to him. The clip was shared widely on social media and spotted by Fabricant himself, who didn’t hold back in his response.

“Huw is pretty short-sighted,” he told the BBC at the time. “He’s a relatively new member of Parliament – bless – he didn’t know that PMQs is actually televised. And I’m sure if he did, he would have behaved in a more grown-up way.
