During the success meet of Mari Selvaraj’s recent film Vaazhai, the director announced the sequel to the film. Mari, addressing the crowd during his speech, stated that he will make Vaazhai 2. “I’ll bring back the character Sivanaindhan because there is another powerful story behind the film.

I’ll make another Vaazhai if there is still any confusion about who I am. There is more to be told.” The film is a biopic of the director and is about a child who is subjected to work at a banana plantation against his own wishes when he rather wants to spend time in school and play with his friends.

Vaazhai was released on August 23, and received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Based on a true story, Vaazhai explores the lives of young school-going teenagers Sivanaindhan (Ponvel) and Sekar (Raghul) whose families have been carrying banana stalks for generations. Vaazhai stars Ponvel M, Raghul R, Kalaiyarasan, Nikhila Vimal, J Sathish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, and Janaki.

It marks the debut of Mari Selvaraj as a producer; he produced it with his wife, Divya. On the technical front, Vaazhai has cinematography by Theni Eswar, editing by Suriya Pradhaman, and music by Santhosh Narayanan..
