[Written by Anya Thompson] From the turquoise shores of Bermuda to the competitive fields of Dallas, Texas, a determined group of young from is gearing up to make a statement on one of the grandest stages in youth football — the prestigious Dallas Cup. From April 11th to 21st, these student-athletes will represent not only their school but their island, competing in the U18 division, where dreams are tested and futures are forged. At the heart of the mission is head coach Dennis Eve, a passionate educator and tactician who sees football as more than just a game.
“This is about developing young men through football,” Eve shared. “We’re shaping student-athletes of the highest calibre — disciplined, focused, and capable of applying themselves in life, not just on the pitch.” His vision is clear: to use football as a vehicle to instill purpose, discipline, and ambition, and the Dallas Cup, he believes, is the ideal proving ground.
Few youth tournaments carry the clout of the Dallas Cup. With alumni like Christian Pulisic, Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan, and Gio Reyna, it’s a tournament where stars are born and dreams take root. CedarBridge will compete in the U18 bracket, just beneath the top-tier Super Group, which features academy sides from global giants like Real Madrid, Newcastle, and São Paulo.
Their campaign begins on April 13th against Dallas Hornets, an MLS Next Academy Side. Two more group matches follow, on the 14th vs Solar SC 07/08 ECNL, and on the 16th against EP Legends 2008/2007, a strong Texas-based academy. If they advance past the group stage, the knockout rounds will run through April 21st.
“This kind of exposure is priceless,” said Eve. “It gives our boys a front-row seat to elite competition, and a lesson in what it takes, physically and mentally, to thrive at the next level.” A squad brimming with potential and passion, the team features 17 players from CedarBridge Academy: Behind the scenes, Sydney Santos and Aleigha Trott will manage the team’s social media coverage, ensuring fans at home can follow the journey.
To strengthen the squad, Eve welcomed three guest players: “It’s a good mix,” Eve noted. “The younger players bring energy and fire, while the experienced heads add leadership and composure. I’m eager to see how it all comes together on the pitch.
” CedarBridge’s Dallas Cup journey came with little notice — their invitation only confirmed in late December. With just three months to prepare, the team launched into a whirlwind of training and fundraising. “The support from the community has been nothing short of amazing,” said Eve.
“Sponsors, donors, and families all stepped up. This has been a team effort, from Bermuda to Dallas.” Training was intense.
Alongside technical drills, the players undertook a structured programme focusing on fitness, conditioning, weight training, nutrition, and mental preparation, all critical components for student-athletes aspiring to the next level. But perhaps one of the most powerful developmental tools lies beyond the pitch. As part of the cultural and athletic immersion, the CedarBridge squad will stay with host families, many of whom are connected to elite youth programs.
This, according to Eve, is a game-changer. “Living with these families gives our players a rare look into the daily routines of athletes on the cusp of collegiate or professional careers,” he said. “They’ll wake up early, go to school, train hard, eat with intention, and see what discipline and structure truly look like.
It’s one thing to hear about it — it’s another to live it.” Supporting the team throughout this journey are school chaperones Collin Stewart, Hosang Clarke, Latoya Francis, and Kerri Seymour, whose roles are essential in guiding the students both on and off the field. “This trip is about football, yes — but it’s also about growth, character-building, and mentorship,” added Eve.
“The experience these young men gain here will stay with them far beyond the final whistle.” Since its inception in 1980, the Dallas Cup has attracted elite youth sides from around the world. With age groups ranging from U13 to U19, and professional scouts and college coaches lining the sidelines, the tournament has become a magnet for emerging talent.
Many participants have gone on to careers in MLS, Europe, and international football, making it a true launching pad for future stars. Fans can track the team’s progress through their Instagram page @cbaballers, where behind-the-scenes footage, match-day highlights, and player features will be posted throughout the tournament. org. As the CedarBridge boys don their jerseys and take the field in Dallas, they carry with them more than dreams of victory. They represent a community, a culture, and a belief that young people, given the opportunity and support, can rise to any challenge.
“Win, lose or draw — this experience will shape who they are becoming,” Coach Eve affirmed. “And that alone makes them winners.” : ,.
