CEBU Mitsumi Inc. is expanding its footprint in Cebu Province with the groundbreaking of its new production facility at the MRI Special Economic Zone (MRI-SEZ) in Danao City, Cebu on April 10, 2025. The new 5,000-square-meter facility, backed by a capital investment of ¥20 billion, will feature a class 10,000 clean room and a dedicated non-production area to support the company’s high-tech manufacturing operations.
The expansion is expected to generate over 500 direct jobs in the region. Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) Director General Tereso Panga, who led the groundbreaking ceremony, expressed gratitude to Cebu Mitsumi and its parent company, MinebeaMitsumi, for their continued trust in Peza and the Philippines. He noted the company’s four-decade-long presence in Cebu and consistent growth across Philippine ecozones.
“With its cutting-edge facilities and a workforce of more than 20,000 highly skilled Filipino employees here in Danao, Cebu, Mitsumi has played a critical role in advancing the electronics and automotive sectors. Its continued success underscores the strength of our ecozones and the global competitiveness of Filipino talent,” Panga said in a statement. Cebu Mitsumi president Tatsuya Mori, speaking on behalf of MinebeaMitsumi, credited Peza’s supportive policies and streamlined processes for enabling the company’s sustained growth in the country.
Panga reaffirmed Peza’s commitment to maintaining a competitive and business-friendly environment for investors. “We aim to further enhance our ecozones as highly efficient, sustainable and globally competitive investment destinations,” he said. MinebeaMitsumi is a Japanese multinational manufacturer specializing in mechanical components and electronic devices.
With a strong global presence across industries such as automotive, healthcare, infrastructure and semiconductors, the company is actively investing in innovation areas like electric vehicles, renewable energy and artificial intelligence. In the Philippines, MinebeaMitsumi has invested more than P9.2 billion and employs over 25,000 workers across its facilities in Danao City and the City of Naga in Cebu, Sto.
