A Leicestershire Police officer accused of inappropriately touching and messaging a female colleague has had the case against him dropped. The sergeant, who has not been named by the force, was called before a misconduct hearing in October last year. The officer was accused of touching the woman inappropriately when they were both at a work social in November 2021, and of making an inappropriate comment about her to a male colleague.
At the time, he was the woman’s supervisor, Leicestershire Police said ahead of the hearing. The sergeant was further accused of sending a number of messages to the woman between January and December 2022 “which failed to maintain a professional boundary ”. However, half way through the proceedings “a disclosure issue arose”, Leicestershire Police said yesterday (Thursday, October 17).
This led to both the force’s legal representatives and those of the sergeant considering “further material” in relation to the accusations. In light of the new information, the force said, it agreed to “withdraw” its case against the man. No details have been given publicly regarding the nature of the new information.
